It’s not too late to get your year (and rear) in gear! On January 31, 2014 Orangetheory Fitness Morrisville opened their doors to the public. Located in the growing Park West Village shopping center across the parking lot from Gander Mountain, this bright and welcoming location is sure to change the way we think about working out and getting fit.
Owner, Kristie Shifflette and her husband spent 2 years researching concepts and industries for the right business to invest in that would bring a positive impact to the lives of others as well as bring their community together. It took less than a week after being introduced to Orangetheory’s unique concept to make their decision.
Kristie believes that one of her biggest motivators is the ability to show her kids hard work in building a business and being involved with the community in a positive way. Raleigh Happening spoke with Kristie about Orangetheory and what she and her husband, Matt, hope to bring to area North Carolinians.
RH: What is Orangetheory Fitness’s mission?
KS: The mission of Orangetheory Fitness is to provide results to our clients through heart rate-based interval training at an affordable price. Our program provides superior results to all fitness levels with cardiovascular conditioning, strength, core and flexibility training in a motivating, fun and friendly atmosphere.
RH: What differentiates Orangetheory Fitness from the competition?
KS: #1 – Orangetheory Fitness is a small fitness studio focused on results. This is a proven, science-based, total body workout that uses five heart rate zone training. We are not like a big box gym; we are building a fitness family/community where we know members by name and hold them accountable. We want our members to know – their goals are our goals. Orangetheory Fitness clients aren’t just paying for access to a large gym where they don’t know when you are coming. We are tight knit and results oriented.
#2 – Orangetheory Fitness is a product that was years in the making. We always provide a total body workout, helping people achieve the most effective workout in a 1 hour period of time. All participants wear heart rate monitors tracking their progress for short interval bursts to maximize that “orange effect” where you can burn between 500-900 calories for an hour. Hitting that orange zone for 12-20 minutes will allow your body to continue burning calories for 36 hours after your workout (this is known as EPOC – excess post-exercise oxygen consumption). Your progress is easily tracked by our fitness coaches and monitors located throughout the studio giving visual confirmation and real-time feedback.
RH: What are your hours of operation?
KS: Our classes run all week starting as early as 5:30am and as late as 8:00pm. We offer Saturday and Sunday classes as well. I should also mention that there are no long term contracts – just month to month – and many membership and class package options to suit various budgets and fitness goals. We are always happy to give guests a tour or help them book an introductory class.
RH: How large can your sessions be?
KS: We limit our class size to 24 people in one session and do not have a minimum.
RH: How many staff members/trainers do you have?
KS: We have 6 fitness coaches including our head coach. We also have a wonderful studio manager, Adrienne Hall, and a team of excellent, customer-service oriented sales associates.
RH: What can new members expect an Orangetheory FItness experience to be like?
KS: They can expect the experience to be challenging, fun and exhilarating. We asked members to give us their feedback and comments included: accomplished, healthier, on my way to a better me, the best I’ve felt in years and ‘I love the music and team environment’. This will be a workout unlike anything they have done before.
During the first Orangetheory Fitness session you should focus on yourself and pay close attention to the coach’s instructions – try not to worry about what others are doing. It may take a couple sessions to get used to the different exercises and vocabulary (i.e. base pace, push pace, all-out) but our coaches are there to support and motivate you. The point is to have fun and get the most effective, one hour, total body workout. If you come 2-4 times per week, you will see visible results in your first month!
RH: What would you like North Carolinians to know about Orangetheory Fitness?
KS: That this is all about results! We take the guesswork out of exercise, incorporating science and technology to allow people to work out in a safe and effective manner. This is for everyone, we have all types of members from professional athletes to lung transplant patients. Fitness professionals are here to make sure you are not over or under training. Most importantly you are in a motivating and challenging atmosphere that will make you come back for more!
Our own editor-in-chief visited the Morrisville location on Wednesday to experience an Orangetheory Fitness session herself. In 1 hour she burned over 550 calories and claimed, “I haven’t had a workout like that in years! It was amazing and I am so glad this has come to the area. The coaches are attentive and motivating, the other class members were incredibly supportive and the facility is sleek and welcoming. I cannot wait to come back!”
One of the best things about this concept is that no matter what your fitness level might be or what height/weight/shape you are, they will not only tailor the workout to you and your goals but you get the added benefit of motivational support in a group setting. So call them as soon as you can and take 1 hour to step towards a fit future.
