Teens and Parents are Invited to Improve Car Control, Mental Preparedness and Parent-Teen Driver Communication During Two-Day Intensive Driving Courses

Teen Driving Solutions School invites students and parents to attend one of its seven signature Safe Teen Driver Courses in 2015, open to families in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The two-day intensive classes provide teens with a mix of behind-the-wheel and mental training to improve their vehicle control skills in a structured and safe setting. Parents who participate in the program are connected with a licensed relationship and communication expert to improve the effectiveness of their driving coaching methods while in the car with their newly driving family member.

The first spring TDSS class is scheduled for March 14-15, and registration is open now at www.teendrivingsolutions.org. Dates for the rest of the 2015 classes are April 25-26, May 30-31, June 20-21, July 18-19, Oct. 3-4 and Nov. 7-8. All classes are held at VIRginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia just on the North Carolina border.

“We’re working to fight some pretty scary statistics,” founder and certified High Performance Driver Education Instructor Dan Wagner says. “Teen driving related car crashes are the primary cause of death for teenagers. We want parents and teens to take advantage of our classes, so we can continue to instill a greater sense of responsibility in young drivers for both their lives and the lives of their passengers.”

A typical driver’s education course focuses on passing the license test, which is necessary, but often not enough. Rather than replacing the traditional driver’s education classes, the TDSS Safe Teen Driver Course curriculum expands on the syllabus traditional classes provide. During the course, students go through different training exercises that teach how to physically control a car in a variety of potentially life-threatening situations, such as a tire dropping from the pavement, tires skidding and more. By working through possible real-life occurrences, TDSS gives teens the confidence and skills they need to stay safe on the roads.

The TDSS instructors are experts in their field and have decades of experience. While teenage drivers are in the classroom learning practical safe-driving skills, master licensed relationship and communication expert Dr. Dar Hawks teaches parents key methods to best coach new drivers. Parents also get a chance to drive with the same instructor teaching their teen, which helps them understand the skills their child needs as well as shows them simple, effective ways to teach and lead by example.

Teens 15 and older with a learner’s permit or driver’s license and who have a minimum of 20 hours supervised behind-the-wheel experience are eligible to participate in the TDSS Safe Teen Driver Course. Participants can use their own car or one of the TDSS training vehicles while driving during the course. Registration starts at $595, which includes both parent and teen participation, and classes are limited to 24 students. Registration is open now for all classes in the 2015 season.
