NC State University Howling Cow® Ice Cream will debut a one time, limited edition “Kay Yow Pink Peppermint” flavor at the 10th Annual Hoops 4Hope basketball game on Sunday, Feb. 22, with proceeds benefitting The Kay Yow Cancer Fund®. The special flavor will only be available at the Hoops 4Hope game.
Each year the Hoops 4Hope game brings together coaches, players and fans in NC State’s Reynolds Coliseum to raise awareness for women’s cancer research and celebrate local cancer survivors. As is tradition, women’s cancer survivors will gather together on the court at halftime for a special celebration. To register as a survivor, please visit GoPack.com.
In addition to trying “Kay Yow Pink Peppermint” at the game, fans are encouraged to visit informational booths and participate in a silent auction. The first 5,000 fans to arrive at Reynolds Coliseum will also receive a free t-shirt.
For over half a century, generations of North Carolinians have enjoyed Howling Cow premium ice cream on NC State’s campus or at the North Carolina State Fair. Howling Cow is made on campus at the Department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Science’s Feldmeier Dairy Processing Lab in Schaub Hall. Its traditional recipes start with fresh milk and cream from the Raleigh farm, with top-quality ingredients added to create many delicious flavors, including “Kay Yow Pink Peppermint.”
On Friday, Feb. 20, staff from the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and special guests from NC State previewed the new flavor at a “Scoops 4Hope” taste testing.

Legendary NC State Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kay Yow planned the first Hoops 4Hope game in 2006 to raise awareness for women’s cancers and celebrate local cancer survivors on her home court in Reynolds Coliseum. The first Hoops 4Hope game has evolved into what is now the Play 4Kay® campaign, a national initiative that invites middle schools, high schools, colleges and community groups from across the nation to dedicate at least one sporting event to raise awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
